Enabling focus and collaboration for with post-16 learning resource centre furniture in Yorkshire
Scarborough Sixth Form College needed to expand its Learning Resource Centre (LRC) provision to give students a practical and flexible space to study both individually and collaboratively. Having previously worked with another contractor who failed to deliver the project, the college was looking for a trusted education furniture supplier to fulfil the brief in a short space of time.
The brief
Senior leaders at Scarborough College asked Richardsons to complete their sixth form LRC design and installation. Our team was briefed to deliver a new reception counter, waiting area, and various study zones using the college’s distinctive brand colours. Due to complications with the previous contractor, the entire project needed to be completed within a single half-term break.
Our approach
Our team worked closely with the North Yorkshire sixth form college to design an attractive space that students would enjoy working in. To minimise the environmental impact of the project, we sourced post-16 library furniture with environmentally friendly fabrics made from recycled materials, whilst still meeting the brief of using the college’s brand colours.
Communication and collaboration between Richardsons and the college were particularly essential to ensure the new LRC was delivered and installed within the week to prevent any disruption to teaching and learning.

The impact
Scarborough Sixth Form College’s new post-16 library furniture has transformed its Learning Resource Centre into a multifunctional space for students to both focus and collaborate. The new layout has also significantly improved visibility and supervision, making it easier for college staff to oversee the space.
